Our Growers
We work closely with growers in the UK and the Netherlands to source the flowers we need for our glorious arrangements, only occasionally looking further afield. It has been a joy working with them year on year, and as our volume and scale has increased they’ve stepped right up. Here’s a bit more about some of our growers…
UK Growers
Stocks
Sue Lamb grows fabulous stocks, tulips and antirrhinums on her family-run farm in Lincolnshire. She’s one of the first growers I worked with and I love visiting her farm. Working alongside her husband Roger, the farm uses only collector rainwater for overhead irrigation and biomass and recycled woodchip for their heat.
Alliums
We get our lovely alliums from Lance’s farm near Spalding in Lincolnshire. He’s a vegetable farmer by trade, alongside a small crop of flowers. Each year he grows a football-pitch-sized plot of flowers… and we take the lot!
Sweet williams
JB Robinson and Son is a family farm, run by two brothers. They supply us with sweet williams, sunflowers and snowberries which are all grown outdoors on their farm in Lincolnshire.
Peonies
All of Gordon’s fabulous, Lincolnshire-grown peonies are grown outdoors. He grows many different varieties including Sarah Bernhardt, Alertie and Coral Sunset. Next year, we’re taking his whole crop on 40,000 deliveries!
Dutch Growers
Lisianthus
We get some of our lovely lisianthus from Michael, who is from a long line of horticulturists. At 34 he’s following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps, and grows lisianthus and blooms across two sites in the Netherlands. Michael’s offices and flower farms are currently in the process of installing solar technology and will be entirely solar powered by the end of 2020!
Peonies & Delphinium
Roeland might only be 23, but he’s already taking over the family business, which was set up before he was born. A small operation, Roeland’s farm only grows peonies and delphinium and he works with a team of only ten people. The farm has strong ethical credentials, with a focus on using organic fertilizers and collected rainwater for irrigation. Roeland likes working with Freddie’s Flowers as we give (very) advanced warning of what we need and when, helping reduce waste and offering security for the farm!
Alstroemeria
Niels provides us with some of our fantastic alstroemeria that we pack in our boxes. Niels’s farm was established in 1977 and is now represents the gold standard in floral sustainability, recently becoming the first Dutch growers to measure and offset their emissions fully. Niels’s farm has been awarded countless awards, including the On The Way Planet Proof standard, an MPS A+ rating and certifications with Global GAP.
